A fascinating little Petroleum Quartz micro mineral specimen, also known as Firefly Quartz, presented in its own miniature display box.
At first glance, these tiny natural quartz crystals appear beautifully clear and understated. Their real surprise is found within: Petroleum Quartz contains microscopic hydrocarbon inclusions which can fluoresce under ultraviolet light — the feature behind the wonderfully appropriate name “Firefly Quartz.”
Because these specimens are so tiny, the fluorescent inclusions may be extremely small and difficult to see with the naked eye. That's part of their appeal as a micro mineral: this is a miniature geological curiosity to examine closely rather than a large, dramatically glowing crystal.
A fun addition to a mineral collection, Under UV light, tiny fluorescent areas can become visible within the quartz. As these are micro specimens, the fluorescence can be subtle and may require close viewing.
Please note that this is a micro mineral specimen. The quartz itself is only a few millimetres in size, and photographs are enlarged to show its detail.
Display box included.
Traditional Metaphysical Associations
Petroleum Quartz is commonly given the broader traditional associations of Quartz, including clarity, focus and amplification of intention. Contemporary crystal practices may also associate it symbolically with transformation and illumination.
